No Fee Unless You Win.
1-800-TRUCKWRECK AWARDED NEARLY $50,000 TO HELP FUND ATLANTA-AREA HIGH SCHOOL BAND PROGRAMS
ATLANTA, August 25, 2023 –1-800-TruckWreck, powered by Witherite Law Group, partnered with Hot 107.9 and Majic 107.5/97.5 to award a total of $47,500 to the Top 10 bands in Metro Atlanta in the third annual Great Atlanta Band Challenge. The top three winners received $10,000 each and for the second consecutive year, the remaining seven bands in the top ten received $2,500 each. The Great Atlanta Band Challenge is a contest that gives Atlanta-area high school bands the opportunity to showcase their talents and a chance to win $10,000 to further fund their band programs.
The competition generated more than 20,000 votes, helping secure McDonough High School, Ronald McNair High School, and Griffin High School the top three spots, respectively. Griffin High School and McDonough High School were recognized with a big check presentation from Adewale Odetunde, an attorney with 1-800-TruckWreck, Atlanta, at their school on Thursday, August 24, 2023. The presentation for McNair High School will be scheduled for a later date. In addition to the $10,000 awarded to the bands, 1-800-TruckWreck also presented each band member with wireless earbuds and a duffle bag that can be used for band travel. Each school hosted a pep rally during the check presentations to celebrate their awards, and Manni Supreme, radio talent at HOT 107.9, was on-site to celebrate and congratulate the top bands.
“I’m proud of the students, band supporters, and the community for pulling together to make our band great. The band has grown from 20 students to 80, and they’ve worked hard. I’m glad to showcase our kids and give them exposure,” said Daniel Goodmond, band director at Griffin High School. “Now the state of Georgia knows about our talented GHS Band of Gold. We are thankful for this recognition and investment in our students.”
Historically, Great Atlanta Band Challenge winners have used their winnings to fund various needs of the band, including traveling to band competitions, purchasing new uniforms, and investing in new instruments, to name a few. The Griffin High School band will use the award to fund a band trip to the Battle of the Bands competition in Orlando, Florida, in November. The McDonough High School band will use theirs to purchase new instruments.
“I am appreciative of Amy Witherite and 1-800-TruckWreck for the $10,000 prize and the gear they provided to the Griffin High School Band of Gold. This is a testament to the band program, students, and supporters. This is also a testament to Amy and her decision to invest in students. This is a great opportunity for our students,” said Dr. Keith Simmons, superintendent, of Griffin-Spalding County Schools.
With the increased need for funding of fine arts programs in schools, 1-800-TruckWreck awarded the additional seven top ten finalists with $2,500 each for their band programs. Those schools include Mount Zion High School; Booker T. Washington High School; MLK Jr. High School; Towers High School; Stephenson High School; Forest Park High School; and Dutchtown High School.
Since the inception of the Great Atlanta Band Challenge three years ago, 1-800-TruckWreck and Witherite Law Group has awarded more than $140,000 to help fund the needs of Atlanta-area high school bands. In addition to the Great Atlanta Band Challenge, 1-800-TruckWreck and Witherite Law Group donated $15,000 to the Pebblebrook High School band to fund its participation in the 2022 Sugar Bowl Parade and game. The Pebblebrook band was a winner of the 2021 Atlanta High School Band Challenge sponsored by 1-800-TruckWreck.
